Rein it in, or reign in it!

This time of year more than ever presents a challenge to shoppers as well 'avoiders' of shopping.

Christmas is looming large like a big beacon, and for many people this holds the exciting promise of festive shopping.  Lots of people like to go on more than one trip, hoping to wrap up in the cold, dig out the scarves and hats you got given for Christmas last year and hit the high street for your presents.

Why is wrapping paper still sold around those long tubes that don't fit into your carrier bags? Surely in this day and age they ('they' those mythical wizards who invent everything) would've come up with a more convenient way of packaging up wrapping paper?! But anyway, I'm digressing. I can understand why people like Christmas shopping, and ‘getting in the mood’ – but living in a big city as I do, I sometimes find it all a bit too hectic, I don’t like queuing much either, and hasn’t it all reached a bit of a ridiculous scale these days?

I’m afraid I very much fall in the camp of seeing Christmas shopping a bit like going to the dentist. You don’t really want to go, but you know something needs to be done.

However, in this day and age with the rise of internet shopping, people like me can stay at home and simply click away, selecting the bulk of their gifts from the comfort of the chair whilst reclining in front of the fire with a glass of wine. That'll be me all day long thank you very much!

There is of course a train of thought that those who do venture out are embracing the spirit of Christmas a little bit more than those who choose to internet shop, as it’s definitely easier to feel  more festive if you’re out and about – joining in with the world rather than sat at home like an old curmudgeon! Oh well, I’ve definitely been called worse!

Those who are relying on the internet to save them hours of trawling the department stores will probably like me, be looking at ordering their presents round about now. You don’t want to leave it too late especially with delivery times being longer in December.

If all the Christmas talk turns you off rather than on, why not consider escaping the UK and swapping it for a bit of sunshine?
