World Travel Awards – Asia & Australasia

We’ve already reported on the outcome of the Indian Ocean & Africa round, and there have now been yet more winners announced in the World Travel Awards’ latest bout of prize giving for 2011 – this time focusing on the continents of Asia & Australasia.

Held at Dusit Thani Bangkok, the black tie event saw the very best of these continents’ travel professionals rewarded for their efforts over the last 12 months.

Among the Asia winners were Malaysia Airlines, who picked up the award for Asia’s Leading Airline for the third year in a row, Dusit Thani Bangkok, who scooped the Leading City Hotel prize, and Banyan Tree Bangkok, who landed the Leading City Spa Hotel award.

The Dusit Hotels brand also took home a host of additional awards, including Thailand’s Leading Beach Resort and Thailand’s Leading Golf Resort for Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket; and Thailand’s Leading Business Hotel, which went to Dusit Thani Bangkok.

Asia’s Leading Honeymoon Resort was unsurprisingly given to Six Senses, Koh Samui for the second time in two years, while St Regis Bali was awarded for being the overall Leading Luxury Resort.

Australasia’s Leading Airline went to Air New Zealand who took the award home for the third time in a row despite strong competition from Qantas.

Australasia’s Leading Destination went to Bora Bora in French Polynesia, while the Leading Hotel Brand went to Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, and Lilianfels Blue Mountains Resort & Spa, in Australia’s Blue Mountains, won the prestigious award of Australasia’s Leading Resort.

The next ceremony will honour those winners from the Caribbean, and will be held at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay on 19th October.
