Island hopping is a really popular pursuit on a Maldives holiday, and you don’t have to break the bank to be able to do it.

Lots of our hotels offer this as an additional excursion. Kuredu offer a half day’s excursion to two of their neighbouring islands offering the chance to see a dolphin friendly tuna canning factory as well as the fishing village of Naifaru. This excursion only costs the equivalent of 40 USD per person.

One&Only Maldives at Reethi Rah also offers the opportunity to island hop aboard a mechanised authentic Dhoni boat sailing across the North Male Atoll and taking a swim or snorkel en route to a local island where you can call in for souvenirs like local arts and crafts. Alternatively you can enjoy an evening sunset cruise with the family and seek out dolphins to swim with.  

You can also island hop at Komandoo Island Resort. Located directly opposite the island is Kuradu (not to be mistaken with Kuredu which is also nearby and available for island hopping for the day.) Kuradu features a fantastic house reef for snorkelling and an empty beach perfect for uninterrupted sun basking. Duration: Half day

Or you can venture a little further and visit Maalfilaafushi and Vawaru on a full day excursion (minimum 8 guests). These two islands are markedly different, the former is inhabited by 200 locals (and you will see how the island has developed since people moved there in 1987) whereas the latter is a deserted island where you’ll stop for lunch and a snorkel opportunity.

You can also ‘do island hopping’ upmarket should you wish to. For example, at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa you can take your place on a 55 foot luxury sports cruiser with air conditioning, flat screen TV and lunch served on board as you flit between various sandbanks and reef tops in pursuit of that ideal photo opportunity or snorkel site.
