Maldives FishingMeeru Island Resort Fishing

While on holiday in the luxurious Maldives, it can be tempting to stay on the beach or in the spa for days on end, and who can blame you for enjoying an ultimate relaxation holiday!

But there are in-fact numerous recommended activities on offer for holiday makers in the Maldives and many of the hotels and resorts will plan a private trip for your party.

One of the best excursions that Destinology can recommend is Night & Day Fishing.

Fishing in the Maldives is famous for its unique techniques and the plentiful fresh fish that are caught everyday on board the Dhoni yachts.

Night fishing especially is a magical way to spend your evening, as the Dhoni yachts anchor at the outer atoll reefs and drop their lines for the fish. The traditional method of 'pole and line' fishing is still used and you can take a rod and have a go yourself!

The best bit about night fishing is the late night BBQ where you can eat your freshly caught fish under the stars. See if you can catch a rare Eagle Ray or Barracuda among the popular Snapper and Tuna fish.

Night and day fishing in the Maldives is a major activity of the country and travellers to any resort should embrace the activities offered. Some trips include both day and night fishing opportunities, allowing you to enjoy both activities.

In the North Male Atoll; the Banyan Tree Madivaru Resort and Kurumba Resort both offer fishing trips for guests in the nearby still coral waters.

Some resorts such as the Lily Beach Resort and Spa offer sunset fishing as part of their all inclusive option, a luxury package that allows you to truly indulge on holiday.

The Meeru Island Resort also offers night and/or day fishing, where your catch will be cooked for you in the Meeru Island Restaurant, allowing you to savour every taste.

Many resorts in the Maldives are located on their own private islands so a fishing trip is perfect here for catching exotic fish… and eating them afterwards!
