Unsurprisingly, many of the largest hotels in the world are located in Las Vegas with many in the prime location known as the ‘Strip’.
So, in no particular order, here we go….
MGM Grand & Casino, Las Vegas
It’s not really owned by Terry Benedict from Ocean’s Eleven, but with well over 5,000 rooms the luxurious MGM Grand makes the top ten with comfortable ease. Rooms at this famous casino venue offer an absolute minimum of 41 sqm and feature custom marble bathrooms and a classic motif design. Choose to reside in the Grand Tower or on the West Wing.
Palazzo, Las Vegas
A sprawling Las Vegas metropolis, suites at the Palazzo all feature a sunken lounge decorated and furnished with European influence. You can’t book a basic room at this all-suite hotel where each one features no less than 3 LCD HDTV’s, one of which is located in the 40sqm bathroom. Excess is almost a given at this popular Strip hotel which offers 5 star standards.
Luxor, Las Vegas
Recreating Egypt in Nevada, this 4* strip hotel features over 4000 guest rooms with over half located in the giant pyramid, that would look more at home in Giza. The front of the hotel is guarded by a replica of the great Sphinx and the Eastern theme is prevalent throughout the hotel with Egyptian Spa and authentic spicy restaurants as well as American favourites.
Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas
Linked to the Luxor Hotel by monorail, the Mandalay Bay offers an 11 acre private white sand beach and is divided into two sections; Mandalay Bay and THE Hotel, with lead in rooms exceeding 50sqm of space. In total the resort provides almost 4,500 rooms across its two sections and key features include its beach club, shopping complex, spa and casino.
Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas
With almost 3,700 rooms, Planet Hollywood takes pride of place in our top ten. Each room features movie memorabilia items and a range of suites cater well for the A-list traveller. A hotel recommended to the young and young at heart features a tasteful striptease show (amongst others, don’t be put off), as well as gaming, a twin decked pool area with cabanas, varied dining options and a prime location on the Strip.
The Venetian, Las Vegas
Another of Las Vegas’ 5* themed hotels, The Venetian recreates the winding canals, mood and visual glamour of Venice. Over 4000 room types grace the hotel, with the smallest being the Luxury Suite at 60sqm. A popular venue for weddings and receptions, The Venetian also features a 1700 seat theatre and a landscaped rooftop deck with pools, hot tubs and private cabanas as well as a half mile long Grand Canal where newlyweds often like to take a gondola ride.
Circus Circus, Las Vegas
Offering a budget 3* alternative on the Strip, Circus Circus offers around 3,700 rooms and a great atmosphere for families with children, with some fantastic discounts on dining and entertainment to be had. Nothing is small in Las Vegas and this is true here, with a 40,000 square foot shopping promenade, an adventure dome with rides, 4D film screen and the brand new Fright Dome haunted house based on the Saw franchise of films.
Bellagio, Las Vegas
One of the jewels in the crown of Las Vegas, Bellagio continues to draw guests from around the world all eager to discover its refined yet accessible casino and fine dining options. There are almost 4,000 rooms on offer and an obvious highlight is the famous dancing fountain standing proudly at the front of the hotel. Bellaggio is also home to Cirque du Soleil’s memorable show ‘O’ with performances scheduled every day.
Excalibur Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas
Another themed hotel based around King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable, this medieval styled hotel features over 4,000 rooms ranging from standard guest rooms to luxury suites. This 3* hotel is accessible for those travelling with cost in mind, and shows like the Tournament of Kings will transport you back to an age of jousting, merriment and maidens. But unlike in the olden days, keeping your hands to yourself is best advised!
Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu Hawaii
And finally we leave Las Vegas! This huge resort of over 3,300 rooms doesn’t feel overcrowded thanks largely to the fact it is spread over 22 ocean front acres on Waikiki Beach. Tropical scenery and a Hawaiian fun mood will ensure the good times roll here as freely as the surfing waves. A Mandara Spa, six swimming pools and the landmark Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon ensure relaxation options accompany the wilder pursuits.
